Rotary meets Miss America hopeful
WITH?A?GOAL?IN?MIND – Reigning Miss Ohio Valley Brandi Herceg met with the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights Tuesday to discuss her pageant experiences and goals. Herceg will compete for the title of Miss Ohio this June and, if she wins, will proceed to perform in the Miss America Pageant. --Giovanni P. Rossi

The Rotary Club of Weirton Heights hosted Brandi Herceg, current Miss Ohio Valley, at its Tuesday breakfast meeting.
Herceg, a 19-year-old native of Steubenville, Ohio, told Rotarians she is currently attending Franciscan University of Steubenville and will be changing her major from children’s education to computer science.
She noted the Miss Ohio Valley program is part of the Miss American Program which, according to Herceg, is the largest provider of scholarships for young women in the nation.
“I’ve won over $1,000 in scholarships so far,” she said.

Think of me as your personal "Dear Abby." I received my first question and hope to receive more! I think it's important to note here that I have no way of knowing who you are unless you tell me. Until then, here's a little advice: All relationships are based on good communication and the ability to forgive. People who constantly hold grudges or are vengeful aren't good candidates for marriage, unless they are willing to work hard on these personality problems. Otherwise, marriage will be a negative experience for them and their spouse! Forgiveness is the key to making any relationship work. Kindness goes a long way, too, of course! Sue

"Let the U.S. come and help you." Those were the words of President bush to the military junta running Myanmar (Burma to those of us who are geographically stuck in junior high school in the 1970s). "We already know that they are very inept." Those were the words of Laura Bush in criticizing the military junta running Myanmar for not accepting aid from outside following a devastating cyclone. Normally, it'd be easy to agree that the U.S. has a moral high road upon which to stand. Except: Except somewhere burned into our collective brains are the scenes of people in New Orleans after the Hurricane Katrina floods, waiting days for help to come from our own government, despite no junta telling outsiders to stay the heck out of a major American city. Harvesting Campaign Signs

Ohians should be happy the primary election is history. There was a chance of snow for the Ohio March 4 primary election. West Virginia won't see its primary until May 13. Ohio property owners saw the campaign yard signs come and go long before the grass turned green. West Virginia resident know the grass is green and it is growing like crazy. Many yards throughout the Northern Panhandle have at least a dozen candidate signs. It is a contest between dandelions and candidates. I pity the poor homeowner that can't say “no” to a candidate placing a sign in their yard. They must dread having to move and replant those signs every time the grass has to be cut. It is taking support for a candidate to the extreme to have to move those signs every time the grass is cut. Spring is the most beautiful time of the year and many homeowners take extra pride in blooming flowers, shrubs and trees. The campaign signs look like weeds in many a nice looking yard. Rocket is misfiring again

Roger Clemens said all the people associated with the Mitchell Report had to do was find him and he gladly would have talked to them. He then said Brian McNamee lied about him. He followed that with the fact Andy Pettitte "misremembered." He promptly threw his wife under the proverbial bus. Now, the Rocket is claiming Mindy McCready also lied about their relationship, the one that started when she was 15 and he 28. McCready came out and confirmed the affair, something, I'm sure, she really wanted to do. Clemens said they did not have an intimate relationship. Clemens must have been coached by Bill Clinton on that one? According to Clemens, only he and Jose Canseco are telling the truth. Does that sound as odd to you and it does to me? What a way to start my reviews. After a special screening at Weirton's Plaza Theatre last night, I can now bring you this official review of Iron Man, uncut and with bonus content. Die hard comic book fans have begged for one thing over the years: a good comic book movie. Batman Begins came and prayers were answered for DC comic fans; but what about Marvel? With short comings such as the X-Men series and the Spider-Man sequals, its about time something went right for the company. Iron Man is the first comic book movie to be produced by Marvel's own production company. This allowed for careful attention to detail in both character development and overall coolness. Packed with action sequences and solid dialogue, this film is sure to attract both "comic nerds" and the general public and leave them wanting more. Is anyone else around here under the impression that every criminal and wanna-be criminal from throughout Jefferson County car pooled to the voting polls this past year? No, seriously. They had to have. Because we can’t possibly have that many insane people around here say to themselves, "We need a place for dogs and cats, but not for felons." So now, as a result of this lovely display of intellect, whenever someone feels the need to steal something from a dollar store (although why anyone would want to steal something from a DOLLAR store in the first place is beyond total comprehension,) opts to drive under the influence of alcohol for the umpteenth time, gets caught using or selling drugs, or simply feels like beating the crap out of their spouse or small child, you know what they’re going to get? So I saw Alex today. He likes this blog. Damn. (Can I say damn on this blog? They told me I could be edgy, but how edgy is edgy? And how edgy is too edgy?) So anyway, I figure I've gotten into the habit of it, so I'll keep going. Sooner or later the ban hammer will happily come down on my head. Unless, of course, Alex is humoring me in order to foil me. He's very Machevellian like that. I was going to take a picture of Alex for my blog, so you can see what he looks like, and besides, I like the way these blogs look with a picture. Good afternoon, Pirates fans (and I know there are a few of you left, both male and female)! Welcome to my blog. I hope to share with you as often as possible my hopes and dreams for Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball as they begin what we all hope will become their first winning season in 15 years! I promise my blogging will be fair, honest and unbiased, yet strongly opinionated. As I stated in my biography, I have been a fan of the game since I was nine years old.
