Marshalls to open in fall at Ohio Valley Mall

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Marshalls is set to open in October at the Ohio Valley Mall, and work is under way inside the former Elder-Beerman department store to make way for the new retailer.

Joe Bell, spokesmen for mall parent the Cafaro Co., said demolition work inside the space began earlier this month and is expected to be finished by June 1. After that, construction will begin to prepare the interior and exterior of the building for the new shop.

Bell said the buildout is expected to be done by Aug. 1, after which Marshalls can install its own fixtures, merchandise and staff.

“Their intention is to shoot for an Oct. 1 opening,” Bell said Wednesday.

Marshalls is under the TJX corporate umbrella, the same company that owns TJ Maxx and Home Goods stores. A TJ Maxx store is located at The Highlands in Ohio County. For those who have not shopped at a Marshalls before, Bell described the experience as a “treasure hunt” of sorts.

“They offer up really good discounts on designer names. … My wife goes frequently and is thrilled to find new things at good prices,” he said.

Much like TJ Maxx, Marshalls offers clothing for men, women and children, household items, toys and more.

Marshalls will use just a portion of the former Elder-Beerman store. The other side of that store, located across the hall, remains empty for now.

Bell said his company is negotiating a possible lease deal with another company to occupy that space.

As for the also recently vacated Kmart space, Bell said his company is researching possible uses for the area.
