NEW DIRECTOR: Mollie Cecere, former associate director of admission and recruitment for Point Park University, has been named director of enrollment management at Bethany College.
Cecere also served as head manager of athletics at Saint Vincent College and recruitment specialist for Wheeling Jesuit University.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to join the Center for Enrollment at Bethany. With almost 10 years of recruiting experience in higher education at small private liberal arts institutions, I can truly say that enrollment has become a true passion. I can’t wait to join the Bethany Community,” she said.
She graduated from Saint Vincent College in 2003 with a bachelor of arts degree in communication, having majored in public relations and advertising. Following that, Cecere attended Point Park University and graduated with a master’s degree in business administration.
She also has been affiliated with the Pittsburgh Young Professionals, Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project, National Association for College Admission Counseling and the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling.
Bethany College President Scott D. Miller said, “Mollie is everything the college needs in an enrollment director, and we can’t wait to have her interacting with our students, helping lead them on a greater path of education and excellence.”

NEW JOB: Candie Harmon Starr has been named chief operating officer and ethics and compliance officer at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital, San Antonio, Texas.
A 1986 graduate of Weir High School, she’s the daughter of Diane Harmon and the late Larry Harmon. She has a master’s degree in health care administration from American Intercontinental University and a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science from West Liberty University.
She had been corporate director with Lifepoint Hospitals in Brentwood, Tenn., providing ancillary operational leadership across 57 hospitals in 20 states, since 2007. She was director of the laboratory, occupational health clinic and health and wellness at HCA Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, Texas, from 2005-07 and held a variety of management positions at HCA Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, Fla., from 1995 to 2005.
She has served on the Joint Commission’s Board of Advisors, HealthTrust Purchasing Group Advisory Boards, the United Way board and the boards of several community bloodbanks.
She and her husband, Jim, have two daughters.
ACCREDITED: The American Association of Diabetes Educators has issued accreditation to the Diabetes Education Learning Center, 2502 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, allowing residents in and around the Steubenville area increased access to critical diabetes education services.
Diabetes education is a collaborative process through which people with or at risk of diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and related conditions. Instruction is provided by diabetes educators.
The center offers diabetes education classes each Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The adult support group meets every other week and they are in the process of forming a support group for children. The center accepts all insurances and offers classes to the uninsured free of charge. Several community projects are offered throughout the year for adults and children.
APPOINTED: Karl A. DiBacco has been named vice president, retail banking and sales manager for Citizens Banks’ Dover and Strasburg offices in the northern region.
Under the direction of Elmer K. Leeper, senior vice president, retail banking, DiBacco will be responsible for the expansion of existing business relationships and the development of new business, as well as overseeing the operations of the two branches.
He previously was a vice president and mortgage banker at another area bank.
A graduate of Weirton High School, DiBacco received a bachelor’s degree in business management from West Liberty University and has more than 20 years of lending experience. He is active with the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce, the Strasburg Booster Club and is a board member of the Tiger Foundation. He and his wife live in Strasburg with their two children.

KUDOS: Weir High graduate Kristine Robinson, an interior designer and design educator, will have her work included in two publications this month: A book, in both print and e-formats, by an award-winning author, and cover story in a national trade magazine.
Robinson, who operates her consulting business, Robinson Interiors, from her home near Philadelphia, was contacted in February by author Treena Crochet, for permission to use one of her client images in her upcoming publication: “A Matter of Style: Design Ideas for Personalizing Your Home.” The book features a range of looks from traditional to contemporary designs and guides readers through the planning stages of design while focusing on colors, textures and furnishings.
After viewing Robinson Interiors’ profile on the website Houzz.com, the author chose a photograph of a red and gold family room to feature in a segment about creating individual expressions of self in one’s home.
“My client in this particular project was eager to use bold color in an exciting and vibrant way, so I guided her to use a red accent wall which features some of the architectural details in the room. The space really reflects her sunny personality and is a cozy and personal retreat.”
The second publication to feature Robinson’s work is Drapery & Design Professional, a magazine geared toward the interior design and drapery workroom industry. The magazine is produced by the Custom Home Furnishings Academy for those who share a passion for home decorating and sewing.
The featured project is Robinson Interiors’ 2011 Bucks County Designer House room, and the article outlines the relationship between designers and workrooms.
Robinson, who also teaches the interior design program at Temple University, plays an active role in the drapery industry and has lectured on the national level at conferences and workshops.
She is the daughter of Garfield and Helen Fidler, who make their home on Marland Heights.
HONORED: Misty D. Smith, Ph.D., recently was recognized as the Distinguished Doctorate Alumni Award recipient at the 12th-Annual Black Tie/White Coat Gala held in Columbia, S.C.
The Alumni Award ceremony and gala were hosted by the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and the USCSOM Alumni Association. The distinguished doctorate alumni award is presented annually to an USCSOM alumnus for their significant accomplishments in research and teaching.
Smith is a 1992 graduate of Oak Glen High School and a 1996 graduate of Muskingum University. In 2001, she received her doctorate in biomedical science from the University of South Carolina and is employed as a research assistant professor in the department of pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Utah, where she serves as an investigator in the NIH/NINDS-sponsored Anticonvulsant Drug Development Program. She is the daughter of Jody Smith and the late Larry G. Smith of Chester and makes her home in Salt Lake City with her husband, Malcolm MacKay III.
FORUM: Eastern Gateway Community College President Laura Meeks was among the 30 Ohio college and university presidents in Washington recently for U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s, D-Ohio, sixth-annual college and university presidents’ conference.
Brown’s forum, the first of its kind for college presidents in Ohio, brought together leaders at two-year, four-year, private, public and community colleges to discuss shared challenges and goals for students and institutions of higher learning.
“Our sixth-annual conference builds on our state’s legacy of linking education with economic prosperity, which in turn creates a stronger middle class. Ohio’s two-year and four-year, public and private institutions of higher education are producing the next generation of scientists and lawyers, mathematicians and teachers. It is their work – and their commitment to strengthening the entire pipeline from cradle to career – that will ensure our economy continues to grow and succeed. That’s why this annual conference is so important,” Brown said.
“This conference convenes college and university presidents to discuss ways the next generation of Ohioans can gain the tools and skills needed to repair our economy and create the innovations that will build 21st century progress. Education is our primary economic engine. That’s especially true for older Ohioans who have been laid off and are now looking for skills to compete in emerging fields. GREEN: The Dry Cleaning & Laundry Institute’s “Cleaners Care” Hanger Recycling Program now has surpassed 31 million pledges, the group reports. Aimed at reducing the number of wire hangers that end up in landfills, the program encourages cleaners to recycle them and track how many have been reused.
DLI’s original goal had been 30 million pledges before Earth Day.
Locally, Two Brothers Dry Cleaners, 606 N. Fourth St., is participating in the program.
ENTER: The Muskingum County Business Incubator’s 2013 Big Idea Contest is now under way for residents of Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum and Noble counties.
The contest is designed to encourage new and existing businesses and prospective entrepreneurs with an innovative idea or invention to compete for cash and business services to help launch their idea. EXPANDING: Pittsburgh-based Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C., has opened a Cleveland office, its third in Ohio and its 11th across six states.

BIRTHDAY: Steubenville-based Voto Rigging, Digging Hose Products & More is celebrating its 75th year in business.
The employee-owned company, in business since April 14, 1938, will mark the anniversary with a dinner-cruise on the Gateway Clipper for its 51 employees.
Voto serves the industrial market, including the oil and gas industry.
“We’re excited about it and want to celebrate with our employees, that’s why we decided to do the dinner-cruise,” Voto President Janie Mayle said. “And we’re looking forward now to hitting the century mark with the company.”
HIRED: Matt Caprarese, a Colliers area native and 1996 graduate of Brooke High School, is the new division manager – environmental and utilities for ArcelorMittal.
Caprarese succeeds David Minda, who is retiring after 35 years of service.
Caprarese’s responsibilities will include managing operations and personnel associated with all environmental control facilities, utilities and environmental compliance programs.
He previously served as a manager of corporate environmental control at U.S. Steel, corporate environmental manager for PTC Alliance Corp. and project engineer for Chester Engineers.
A registered professional engineer and certified hazardous materials manager, Caprarese is a graduate of Bethany College, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in environmental science, and Point Park University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.
Caprarese plans to return to the Weirton area with his wife Jamie and daughter Lucy.
JOBS: With its grand opening set for May 27, the new Texas Roadhouse at the Fort Steuben Mall already is hiring full- and part-time workers.
Construction of the 6,700-square-foot restaurant began in late fall. When it’s done, the company looks to employ roughly 200 people locally. Applications are accepted at the site weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

GREEN: ArcelorMittal USA has earned its sixth consecutive ENERGY STAR Award for Sustained Excellence.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy give the award to companies that demonstrate continuous growth, energy management accomplishments and a commitment to energy efficiency.
Since 2006, ArcelorMittal USA has reduced energy costs by more than $165 million through focused improvements in energy management. In 2012 alone, ArcelorMittal achieved a 1.87 percent reduction in energy intensity for U.S. operations compared to 2011, which is the equivalent of powering 141,648 homes for a year.
ArcelorMittal USA President Mike Rippey said the distinction “truly exemplifies our commitment to producing safe, sustainable steel.”
“Energy is one of the most expensive factors in the steelmaking process,” he said. “By continuing to identify and implement innovative energy solutions, we will further reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect the environment and natural resources and improve the sustainability of our operations.”
ArcelorMittal’s blast furnace operations partially reduced the use of coal and coke approximately 5.3 percent by fuel switching to natural gas.
Nationwide, the company also reduced electricity intensity per liquid steel ton approximately 5.0 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, and completed several notable energy projects, including four capitally funded projects that will produce more than $20.4 million of ongoing annual savings.
James Taylor, one of ArcelorMittal Weirton’s Local Energy Champions, said energy efficiency “is a top priority because it creates a more sustainable business while helping to create a healthier and more sustainable community.”
