Starr City fills need for dance apparel
WEIRTON – Starr City Dance Apparel is now open in Weirton.
Located at 1900 Pennsylvania Ave., the shop features dance apparel ranging from leotards, bootie shorts, dance shoes and accessories to cheering uniforms and accessories, warm-ups and practice wear.
Owners Dina Carnes and her daughter, Jodi Chafin, also sell gently used dance costumes on consignment.
“We just think there was a need for something different,” Carnes said, pointing out the merchandise is affordably priced.
The shop carries brands like Capezio, Liberts, Bakera and Urban Groove, as well as one-of-a-kind tutus, leg warmers, embroidered dance bags and bow holders designed by Weirton resident Barb Svokas, and custom-bows desgined by Trishann Sacripanti of Weirton.
The shop is open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
Its grand opening celebration is set for Aug. 31.
