Longtime employee at PJ opens Diamond Shine

STEUBENVILLE – Cleaning has always been therapeutic for city resident Erica Wood.

So when the owner of PJ Janitorial decided to retire and close his business, Wood, a long-time employee decided to start her own company and continue doing what she enjoys.

“I admit it. I enjoy cleaning and have worked for a couple different cleaning companies over the years. I wanted to buy the PJ Janitorial company when the owner retired but he wasn’t interested in selling. So I decided to start my own business, Diamond Shine Janitorial,” explained Wood.

And from serving as the single employee when the business started in April, Wood now has 10 employees who will clean, wash dishes or linen and clean out houses and garages.

The Diamond Shine Janitorial business number is (740) 632-7360.

“I started out with just commercial cleaning and have since expanded to commercial and residential cleaning. I went from one client to seven or eight regular clients and we are now starting to grow even larger,” said Wood.

“We meet with the client and explain our services and determine what the client is looking for. We then quote a price for the services depending on how often they want us to do that service. We do anything and everything pertaining to cleaning,” explained Wood.

“We show up and do our job and then move on to the next client. And we are very thorough and we want to leave our clients satisfied. We usually go a little above and beyond to provide that extra service for our clients. We will go in and do vacuuming, mopping, strip and wax floors, wash dishes, clean linen on a regular basis and just about every type of cleaning someone may want. We also clean out garages, basements and even houses that have been vacated. We even have a client who has asked us to give her dog a bath and that went very well,” stated Wood.

Wood was born and raised in Steubenville.

“My parents died when I was young. I decided early on I wanted to be a positive person who made a difference in our community. I want to make a difference in Steubenville and want to be able to create jobs. I really want to see Diamond Shine Janitorial be a success for many years. Maybe one day we can franchise the business. I have also joined the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce,” said Wood.

“We are licensed and bonded and offer a professional service on a contract basis. All of our employees undergo a background check and are drug tested,” added Wood.

One of her first clients had only good words to describe Wood and Diamond Shine Janitorial.

“They did an absolutely wonderful job in our Plain Jane’s Restaurant. They have stripped the floors and waxed them, cleaned the walls and made this 80-year-old building look new again. I also use her in our rental properties, and Diamond Shine Janitorial does a thorough cleaning,” Zullo commented.

“I want to thank Dawn Zullo, all of my family and friends and the community for helping me to bring my dream of owning my own company become a reality,” said Wood.

“And yes, cleaning really is therapeutic for me. And part of my business,” laughed Wood.
