Restaurant offers scenery

WELLSBURG – Area residents looking for a peaceful place to have lunch during a busy work day or somewhere to unwind and have dinner should try The River Club, a new restaurant at 801 Main St.

Many who live or work in Wellsburg know the location as the former site of Staffileno’s on the River, and the new eatery has retained many of its staff.

But the restaurant has a new menu and in many ways, a new look, with the dining area, banquet room and bar among areas that have been painted, re-carpeted or undergone other renovations, said Todd Bernardini, who with Jeff Cusick, oversees the business.

Bernardini said in addition to its spacious dining area, banquet room and bar, the location’s view of the Ohio River, was a strong selling point. Patrons have an expansive view of the river and at night, the lighted dock installed by the former owner, from the dining room’s wide picture window or its large outdoor deck.

The deck also overlooks the restaurant’s newly re-landscaped marina. Bernardini said docks are available for boaters who want to enjoy a view of the colorful fall foliage along the hillside above the river.

The restaurant also is taking reservations for the private banquet room, which seats up to 120 and is well suited for business or club meetings and Christmas and other private parties.

A Brooke County native and former chef at Aspen Manor, Bernardini said the menu includes a variety of sandwiches, wings in an assortment of flavors, appetizers and sides at affordable prices.

Dinner entrees include a 12-ounce sirloin steak, baked cod and several Italian dishes.

“Our pasta dishes are our biggest seller,” said Bernardini, who noted the wide selection includes fettuccine alfredo, chicken marsala, gnocchi Corleone, pasta florentine, baked sausage ziti and shrimp scampi.

The kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and noon to 10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Patrons in the dining area may order a variety of legal beverages from the bar or have a seat there, where they may catch some sports on television or enjoy a game of pool.

He said those looking for a night out are encouraged to stop by on Friday or Saturday nights, when The River Club offers music by popular local bands, a disc jockey or karaoke.

Bernardini encouraged those interested in making reservations or learning more about The River Club to call (304) 737-0064.
