IBEW recruiting apprentices
STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville Joint Apprenticeship Committee of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 246 is recruiting a new class of apprentices.
Applications will be available at 626 N. Court St. from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 13, 15-17, 20 and 22-24, and from noon to 8 p.m. on Jan. 14 and 21.
An aptitude exam will be given from 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 18 for applications that were completed between Jan. 13-17. An exam will be given from 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 25 for applications that were received between Jan. 20-24. An alternative date, available by appointment only, will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 27.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must be 18, have a valid driver’s license and be a high school graduate or have a GED (proof is required.) Applicants will be required to pass a qualifying National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee/AIR test (dates and times listed above), and be physically capable of performing the work of the trade.
Applicants must reside in or have been a resident of the committee’s jurisdiction for at least 12 months prior to applying. The local jurisdictional area includes Jefferson, Harrison, Carroll, Columbiana, Hancock and Brooke counties. There are certain areas in Harrison, Carroll, Columbiana and Brooke counties that cross into other jurisdictions.
Applicants will be charged a $35 nonrefundable application fee. Debit and credit cards are not accepted.
Applicants will be chosen on the basis of qualifications without regard to race, creed, color or national origin, and must meet all basic requirements to be eligible for an interview. Apprentices will be selected in order of their ranking resulting from rating of interviewers, and those selected must pass a drug screening test.
