Photography business expands to Wintersville

WINTERSVILLE – Trisha McAfee, a native of Jewett, dedicated more than a decade exclusively to raising her children, so when she started a photography business with her husband, Eric May, she decided to name it after them. “MAC” stands for her sons Matthew, Aaryn and Corey, and for the past two-and-a-half years MAC Photography has been serving customers from its Scio location.

The venture has grown significantly in that time, and McAfee and May announced the grand opening of their new Wintersville office and studio space, located at 532 Main St. next to Time for Beauty Salon.

The grand opening celebration is set for Saturday and March 30, and will feature light refreshments, prize drawings and discounted photo package services. Area high school seniors who visit on Saturday and March 30 will be offered 10 percent off a senior photo package, and there will be give-aways every hour.

“It’s really just a great chance to come meet the photographer,” said Valerie Phillips, MAC’s secretary who is a previous client. “She’s wonderful at what she does.”

The new studio, which is still being renovated, features plenty of space for an array of backdrops and a changing room. May is hoping to build up a collection of wardrobe and costume options for customers as time goes on.

Family packages start at $35, and senior photo packages start at $89 with no sitting fee. Engagement packages start at $150, and wedding packages start at $350. They have a layaway option for 25 percent down and 90 days same-as-cash.

McAfee, photographer, and May, editor, are especially proud of their competitive prices.

“We know what it’s rough out there in the economy now, and I know how much it costs me to produce a photo. So I’m not out to break anyone with our prices. We have low prices and high standards, so you can walk out with beautiful quality photos for less,” McAfee said.

“That’s how you create lifetime customers who want to come back,” May agreed.

McAfee intends to offer canvases and poster-sized photos eventually in addition to the packages MAC Photography offers currently.

She got her first camera at the age of 11 and says photography has been her passion ever since. Samples of McAfee’s previous client photos are hung proudly around the new office. She said her favorite type of pictures to take are high school senior photos.

“There’s something about capturing those last moments of high school that just makes me emotional,” she said.
