Anetakis honored by FACS law partners

WEIRTON – Some 47 years after co-founding Frankovitch and Anetakis Law in 1967 with the late Carl Frankovitch, Sr., partner, George J. Anetakis has earned a special honor from his partners.

His portrait has been placed in Frankovitch Anetakis Colantonio and Simon’s executive board room, joining the likeness of Frankovitch, Sr. His partners are quick to point out, though he is not retiring, he’s just being honored for his dedication to the community and for being one of the most trusted names in the area in the practice of law.

Anetakis graduated from Waynesburg University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He then went on to graduate from West Virginia University College of Law with a doctorate of jurisprudence in 1961 and was admitted to practice before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for Northern West Virginia, the U.S. District Court for Southern West Virginia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit while practicing law for 53 years.

Anetakis served as the city attorney for Chester for 14 years and eventually became that town’s first municipal judge. He also served both active and reserve duty in the Army. He has been a prominent member of many boards and community organizations during the past five decades.

“We started out as a two-man law firm and now we are a firm of more than a dozen attorneys and three offices. We’ve accomplished a lot and look forward to our future,” says Anetakis. “Without the support of my family, my career wouldn’t have been or continue to be possible. I am fortunate that my law practice took me to Europe and South America,” says Anetakis.

When asked what advice he would give to recent law graduates, he remarked “always keep your client’s interest foremost while respecting the views of the other side.”

He says his greatest accomplishments are that of husband and father. He married his wife, Jacquelyn, in 1966. Together they are the parents of a daughter Margaret (who lives in Stockholm, Sweden), and sons Jim and Jack. They have three grandchildren.

“Today we celebrate a deep tradition of excellence at our law firm. Our dad was Weirton’s first city attorney and George was Chester’s first municipal judge,” said partner Eric Frankovitch. “My father wrote Weirton’s first city charter and code. We are very proud of what they started. I’m fortunate today to work side-by-side not only with George, but also my brother, Carl, and son, Carl Anderson Frankovitch, while striving to be the most respected name in law in the area.”

The firms’ partners are Anetakis, Eric and Carl N. Frankovitch, Mark Colantonio and Michael Simon.

They are joined by attorneys Carl A. Frankovitch, Thomas Decapio, Kevin Pearl, Marty Mazezka, William Kiefer and Jordan Hettrich. The firm’s areas of specialty include, but are not limited to, personal injury, business, corporate and financial law, oil and gas law, malpractice and Social Security disability. The firm has fully staffed offices in Weirton, Chester and Wheeling.
