Small business workshop scheduled for May 1

WHEELING — In observance of National Small Business Week, the West Virginia Small Business Development Center will waive the usual $35 fee for its workshop for aspiring and new small business owners.

The agency is offering the workshop throughout the state, with the nearest to be held from 10 a.m. to noon May 1 at the Wheeling campus of West Virginia Northern Community College. To register, visit and click on training calendar.

The sessions cover getting a business license, identifying the market and writing a business plan that can build credibility with potential lenders, among other basics.

After completing the workshop, participants may schedule a one-on-one session with a WVSBDC coach. The sessions are confidential and free.

WVSBDC director Erika Bailey said, “West Virginia values our small businesses all year round. National Small Business Week is an opportunity to show our appreciation by encouraging and training our up-and-coming entrepreneurs.”
