Grant adds to Jeffco van fleet

VANS ADDED — Jeffco Services has added four vans to its fleet. the vehicles were acquired with the held of an Ohio Department of Transportation Specialized Transportation grant.

STEUBENVILLE — An Ohio Department of Transportation grant has enabled Jeffco Services to add extra vehicles to its fleet.

Four vans arrived earlier this month after Jeffco Services obtained a specialized transportation grant through ODOT. The grant, which is worth approximately $200,000, covered 80 percent of the purchase. The acquisition brings the fleet up to 10 vehicles.

Dianne Paice, business operations and human resources coordinator for Jeffco Services, said the vans will help improve services.

“We had two different grants, and the four vans are from 2015 and 2016 applications,” Paice said, adding that it was a two-year process to acquire the vehicles. “We have received grants before, but with Jeffco’s privatization and transportation being part of adult services these are going to be a huge asset.”

She added that the agency can focus on community integration in day habilitation services as part of the ongoing privatization efforts to meet federal standards.

“These will primarily be used to transport individuals to and from Jeffco’s day service program and we cover the entire county. We transport about 50 people each day and that may expand.”

Paice thanked Michael Paprocki and the Brooke-Hancock-Jefferson Metropolitan Planning Commission for their assistance in the grant process.
