St. Peter CWC

holds meeting

St. Peter Church’s Catholic Woman’s Club held its monthly meeting on Jan. 8 in the church hall with President Linda Edgar leading in the opening and closing prayers.

It was decided that a free-will collection will be taken for the Archdiocese of Cusco, Peru, after all the Masses on Feb. 2 and 3, and that monetary donations would be given for Catholic Schools Week and for the Loaves and Fishes Project.

A report was given from the Mother of Hope Deanery meeting.

The club also voted to purchase a Cash Bash drawing ticket from Bishop John King Mussio Central School.

A pasta dinner is being planned for March 3 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the church hall.

The next CWC meeting will be held at noon on Feb. 5. Bea Antol and Edgar will serve as meeting hostesses.

Super Soup Sale

The Colliers United Methodist Church, located at 318 Pennsylvania Ave., Colliers, across from the Colliers Post Office, will hold its annual Super Soup Sale fundraiser for its youth group on Feb. 1.

There will be potato soup with or without dumplings, vegetable soup and chicken noodle soup. The sale is for takeout only.

All three soups will be available for pickup between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Feb. 1.

Delivery can be arranged for orders of 10 quarts or more. The cost is $5 per quart. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

The final date to purchase tickets is Jan. 29.

Women’s coffee

house on Jan. 18

Cup of Life Ministries Women’s Christian Coffee House will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Marland Heights Community Church located at 3900 Brightway, Weirton.

Tina Schoolcraft will be the speaker, focusing on a time of praise, prayer and sharing God’s word, according to a news release.

There will be a complimentary coffee bar and desserts with free childcare provided for children age preschool to fifth grade.

Future women’s coffee house gatherings will be held on the first Friday of each month at Marland Heights Community Church.

Philoptochos holds Christmas party

The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Philoptochos Society held their Christmas party at the church on Dec. 6 with Marianne Balakos, president, presiding with 48 in attendance

The Weirton Philoptochos Society was extended an invitation by Balakos to attend the event. Darlene Ballas, president of the Weirton group, attended with 23 of her members.

Vi Buffone, one of Holy Trinity’s oldest members, started a number game that is played every year.

There was a Lenten meal served that was prepared by Nick Tsouris.
