Grace Lutheran Church welcomes

new pastor Sarah Walker-Brown

The Rev. Ron Zoesch, left, director of Evangelical Mission, Northeastern Ohio Synod of the ELCA, recently installed the Rev. Sarah Walker-Brown as pastor of Grace Lutheran Church located at 2015 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville.

Walker-Brown served as pastor of two churches in Iowa before serving in Florida. She has organized youth gatherings, worked with the senior communities and began a child care program for children of disabled soldiers of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

She and her husband, Larry, will be residing in Steubenville. They are the parents of three grown children.

Council members also were installed at this service. A welcoming luncheon was served in the parish hall afterwards.

Habitation of God’s Glory to welcome guest speaker to Friday service

The Habitation of God’s Glory sponsored by the P.O.W. Intercessory Prayer Ministry will welcome Bishop Albert Mitchem of Promise of Victory Church in Colliers as the guest speaker at 7 p.m. Friday at the River Christian Fellowship Church located at 183 Nesley St., Empire. Harmony UMW maps out

The Mingo Junction Harmony United Methodist Women held their January meeting in the church’s social hall with Mary Joy VanDyne, president, presiding and opening the meeting. She also served as hostess.

Ethel Kerwood read devotions entitled “White as Snow” by Billy Graham.

Ginny Howell, program leader, read an article from the Internet regarding controversy over displaying the 10 commandments on government property. She handed out bookmarkers listing the commandments.

In a review of events, VanDyne said the group’s Christmas party at Scaffidi’s was enjoyable and noted poinsettias were delivered to shut-ins.

In new business, the same slate of officers will continue in those roles during 2013.

Activities will include:

Chris Davis will send Valentine cards;

Orders will be taken for Easter lilies;

The theme for UMW Sunday on April 7 will be “Sisters in Service;”

The Ohio Valley District spring meeting will be held April 18 at Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville.

Pam Pietro will be the leader for February’s meeting with Kerwood as the hostess.
