Lunch with Books programs announced
WHEELING – The Ohio County Public Library has announced upcoming Lunch With Books programs.
noon, Jan. 15, “‘The Essay’ with Robin Yocum.” Yocum will his new novel, “The Essay,” about a young man who uses his talent for writing to find a path out of the hills of Appalachia.
noon Jan. 22, “Bagpipe Tribute to Robert Burns.” Bagpiper Betsy Bethel-McFarland will provide a musical tribute to Scotland’s Bard, the “Ploughman Poet,” Robert Burns, in honor of his Jan. 25, 1759 birthday. Burns is the composer of the New Year’s Eve anthem, “Auld Lang Syne.”
noon Jan. 29, “Wheeling Film Society Conversation: ‘The Godfather.'” Those attending may see the film at no charge at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Towngate Cinema.
John Whitehead, Wheeling Jesuit University film studies professor, will host. Director Francis Ford Coppola’s depiction of the promise and problems of post-WWII prosperity are brought to life by an ensemble cast, including Marlon Brando, who won Best Actor for the title role; James Caan, Robert Duvall and Al Pacino, all of whom were nominated for Best Supporting Actor; and Diane Keaton. The Wheeling film society is a partnership among the library, Wheeling Jesuit University’s Fine Arts Department and Oglebay Institute’s Towngate Cinema.
