Conference begins Thursday
MORGANTOWN – The Ninth Annual West Virginia Small Farm Conference will be held Thursday to Friday at the Waterfront Place Hotel and Conference Center.
Registration is available through the West Virginia Small Farm Center website at smallfarmcenter.ext.wvu.edu.
The conference brings together many experts, including West Virginia University Extension agents and experienced farmers, leading more than 70 classes covering everything from horticulture to farm taxes.
Participants may earn special certifications in processing and management. Participants in the Better Process Control School classes held Wednesday and Thursday will receive a license to sell their preserved products. A youth entrepreneurship workshop gives young agriculturalists an open forum to exchange ideas and learn from professionals.
The annual Winter Blues Farmers Market is open to attendees and the public from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Vendors sell everything from local meats and veggies to breads. Admission is free.
A Local Food Dine-Around, featuring food from 15 West Virginia restaurants and locally grown products, will coincide with the farmers market. Tickets for that event will be sold at the door.
