Library announces programming
MCDONALD, Pa. – The Heritage Public Library, located at 52 4th St., will hold a celebration to honor Dr. Seuss’ 109th birthday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 2 at the library located at 152 Fourth St.
The event will include crafts, games and cake. It is sponsored locally by Republic Services.
The Weight Watchers group meets at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and will meet March 5, 12, 19 and 26.
Seniors and low-income residents may make appointments with AARP counselors for free tax preparations every Wednesday at the library through April 10. Free tax preparation will be available March 6, 13, 20 and 27 and April 3 and 10.
The library will begin its “Wii Will Rock You” nights from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 11. Residents are welcome to come and play Wii. Snacks will be available for purchase.
A book discussion group is held at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. March’s book is “The Shoemaker’s Wife,” by Adriana Trigiani, and the group will meet March 12. Those wanting to suggest a book for the group may do so by sending an email to email@example.com.
The McQuilters group meets at 10 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month, which will be March 13.
The library board is looking members. The library board meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month, with the next meeting being March 13. Those interested should contact the library at (724) 926-8400.
The Heritage Library Friends will hold their Spring auction March 20-May 7. Tickets are two for $1 or 12 for $5.
The LEGO Club meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. the last Thursday of each month, with the next meeting date being March 28. The March meeting theme is favorite characters.
The library is looking for volunteers. Volunteers assist with fundraising and supplement the library’s book purchases. For information on becoming a member of Heritage Friends, contact Pat Wyrick at (724) 926-8408.
The library is offering daily sponsorships for $100, during which the library’s phone will be answered informing callers who is sponsoring the library that day and signage will be displayed in the library. Sponsors also will be mentioned on the library’s social media platforms.
The library participates in the ABITIBI recycling fundraising program.
The library offers borough history on microfilm from the 1890s to 1982. It also offers fax services, a copy machine, a scanner, Internet and computer access and e-books, which can be checked out online at the library’s website, using a valid library card number.

Library hours are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
