Shriners plan Saturday fundraiser

The Steubenville Shrine Club will hold a fundraiser pancake and sausage breakfast on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Applebee’s in Steubenville.

Cost is a $5 donation for the breakfast that includes pancakes and sausage, juice and drink. Tickets are available at the door or by calling Jerry Williams at (740) 264-4921 or any club member.

The wives of Shriners are selling tickets for a drawing for a signed painting by Richmond artist Dave Barnhouse entitled “Andy of Mayberry.” Tickets are $2 for one or $5 for three.

The winning ticket will be drawn after the breakfast.

The Steubenville Shrine Club is dedicated to helping area children who have been burned or are in need of medical care at no cost to the families, according to a club spokesperson. The club provides transportation for the children and their families to and from the Shriner hospitals. The state organization, Aladdin Shrine Club, incurs the cost of the medical treatment, meals and gasoline.

“Many adults in our area have experienced help from the Shrine service when they were young and got burned or had other physical disabilities,” the spokesperson said.

“The Shrine Club, like many other nonprofit organizations, has been trying to maintain a presence in our community during this challenging economic downturn. Being a nonprofit organization means we rely on income from our membership dues and fundraiser to pay monthly insurance, maintenance, utilities and taxes. Like everyone, the expenses are higher each month,” the spokesperson added.

The pancake breakfast is the club’s only fundraiser.
