Breakfast Feb. 16 at Mingo center

The Mingo Junction Senior Center, which is in the process of being taken over by Family and Community Services Inc. out of Ravenna, will be the site of a pancake and sausage breakfast on Feb. 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Cost is by donation. Inquiries can be directed to the center located at 663 Commercial St., Mingo Junction, by calling (740) 535-1639.

The center also is organizing a Wheeling Island winter getaway for Feb. 21. The cost is $20 which provides $20 of free play and $5 off the buffet.

Pickup will be at the Mingo Knights of Columbus Hall that day at 9 a.m. with the return around 4 p.m. Seats should be reserved by Thursday.

Other trips include May 13-16 at Wildwood N.J. with a $50 deposit due at the time of reservation and cost paid in full by April 8. For details, contact Suzie Zorbini, center director, at (740) 535-1639.

Another outing is a Branson show at Yankee Lake, Ohio, on April 10 with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and the show at 1 p.m. Cost is $69. Call the center for details.

Applications are

now available

The Bergholz Community Foundation will offer scholarships for the 2013-14 school year with applications now available.

Students eligible for consideration for the scholarships are prospective 2013 high school graduates who reside in the Edison Local School District. Scholarships also are available to nontraditional students, who must be past graduates of Edison High School or one of the Edison school district’s consolidated high schools who are seeking a first-time associate or undergraduate degree or technical training.

Edison High School students can obtain scholarship applications from the Edison guidance office. Applications also are available by forwarding a request and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Bergholz Community Foundation, P.O. Box 201, Bergholz OH 43908.

The application deadline is April 1. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

are announced

Upcoming programs offered through the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County have been announced. They are:

— Cookbook club for the Dillonvale-Mount Pleasant branch will meet on Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. For information, call the library at (740) 769-2090.

— Children can make and take a craft at the following library branches: Toronto branch on Feb. 14 any time from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Dillonvale-Mount Pleasant Branch on Feb. 11 any time from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Adena branch can make a craft to take home on Feb. 12 any time from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Tiltonsville branch on Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m.; and at the Brilliant branch on Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m.

— Play and Learn will be held on Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Schiappa branch. It is for caregiver and children ages birth to 3. This one-hour play is an opportunity to meet other parents of young children and a way to introduce the library to children at an early age.

— Story Time will be offered at the main library on Wednesdays, Feb. 13-27 at 6 p.m.

— Babygarten, for caregiver and children ages birth to 24 months, will be held at the Brilliant Branch on Feb. 14 at 11 a.m.

— Learn how to make an egg roll in observance of the Chinese New Year, at the Brilliant branch on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Weirton Elks to hold wine-tasting

The Weirton Elks Club will hold a wine-tasting from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Lodge located on Main Street, Weirton.

Wines made by the Tri-State Winemakers Club will be featured. Finger foods and glasses will be provided.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
