Baltich gives project updates
WEIRTON – The Garden Department of the Weirton Woman’s Club, a General Federation of Women’s Clubs member, met Feb. 12 at Undo’s at the Holiday Inn – Weirton with Chair Sharon Neeley presiding.
Neeley thanked hostesses June Pulice and Carol Village for their Valentine decorations.
Barbara Raynolds led the inspiration and explained how Valentine cards began. She also led members in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary Diana Durst read the minutes, and Treasurer Jeanne Amidon gave the treasurer’s report. Courtesy Chair Dawn Neeley reported 21 members and one guest were present. Neeley discussed upcoming projects, including planting flowers and bulbs at the Mary H. Weir Library and sponsoring a child for the conservation camp in Ripley this summer. Final arrangements are being made for the Calendar Luncheon April 13 at Undo’s. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from any department member.
General Club Conservation Chair Shirlee Baltich presented the program, reporting donations of blankets, towels, dog and cat food and litter amounting to almost $500 were given to the Animal Shelter. She discussed the Adopt the Spot Project and Main Street flags project. She then played the Weirton Area History Game with members. Enid Williams, first place; Minnie Pazich, second place; and Molly Mossor, third place, won Valentine bears. Announcements were given for upcoming meetings of the general club and Art, Literary and Garden departments.
The next department meeting will be held March 12 at Undo’s, and Master Gardener Roger VanHorn will present the program. Teresa McGown and Barbara Raynolds will be the March hostesses, and Inspiration Chair Carol Village announced Barbara Raynolds will have the March inspiration.
