Marine auxiliary holds meeting
WEIRTON – The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held their monthly meeting at the Serbian American Cultural Center on Colliers Way, with Vice President Darlene Kemp calling the meeting to order and presiding over the business session in President Joan Spano’s absence.
Marcy Spano gave the devotions, reading “The Master Gardener” and Luke 18:9-14 in Chaplain Mary Ann Smith’s absence. Vice President Elizabeth Shipe led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance; Kemp called roll; and Secretary Carol Lyons read the February minutes, which were approved as read.
Lyons read thank-you letters from the West Virginia Veteran’s Home in Barboursville for birthday cards and calendars. Boatsie’s Boxes sent a thank-you letter for Valentine’s Day cards.
Judy Hucik of Florida and JoAnn Campbell of Richmond, Ohio, sent gifts of funds for troop care packages. Joan Spano donated 20 boxes of Girl Scout cookies, and Marcy Spano donated four boxes of cookies and 75 homemade Easter cards. Dr. Vincent Placek donated a case of toothpaste; Jim Hobart of Myrtle Beach, S.C., a case and a half of playing cards; and Sheila Galante of Steubenville, Ohio, healthy snacks.
Maxine Ragan gave the treasurer’s report, which was approved. In the absence of Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliott, Marcy Spano reported sympathy cards were sent to Sheila Kendrick, Clyde and Sonja DiAngelo and Scott and Peg Dawson; and get-well cards to George Ragan, Joan Spano, Don Smith and Berna Bee.
Historian Marcy Spano passed out pictures.
Lola Tremblay’s March birthday was observed, and she thanked club members for their well-wishes. The auxiliary’s adopted veteran, Danny Lyons, also celebrated a March birthday, and the auxiliary gave him a present.
The group is planning a bakeless bake sale.
Shirley Brecht and Mary Ann Elliott will serve refreshments at the April meeting.
The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 8 at the Serb center.
