Point Pleasant Ladies Aide meets
NEW CUMBERLAND – The Point Pleasant Ladies Aide met March 13 at the Point Pleasant Methodist Church located on Wylie Ridge with President Carolyn Allison calling the meeting to order.
The meeting room was decorated with a spring theme including flowers, birds, tulips and spring colors.
Allison introduced and welcomed new member Lynn Humphrey. She also lit the memory candle in honor of those unable to attend because of illness, travel or other obligations.
Allison led the devotions and prayer, reading the poem “Bloom Where You’re Planted.
Mick Goffoli read December meeting minutes, and thank-you cards from Sharon Manypenny and the Fox Crest residents were shared with the group. Kathleen McDonald gave the financial report, and a Sunshine Fund collection was held.
Allison reviewed hostess duties, memorial rules, meetings and dinners for the upcoming year, and members volunteered for duties throughout the year.
The group discussed the Hancock County Oldtime Fair and the River Fest. Allison reminded members of the “From the Heart” plaque project.
The ladies aide has afghans depicting Hancock County scenes for sale for $25. Anyone interested in purchasing an afghan should call Roni Poling at (304) 564-5378.
The group agreed to invite Dr. Carol Slomski, a breast surgeon, to speak at 6:30 p.m. April, and Dr. Stephen Alatis, an orthopedic surgeon, to speak at 6:30 p.m. May 8. Both physicians practice at Weirton Medical Center. All members are invited to attend.
Linda Beatty of the Trinity Methodist Church United Methodist Women sent the group an invitation for a baby shower for West Virginia missions. The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 7 at the Trinity Methodist Church. Members were asked to bring gifts of baby items or funds.
Nancy Wright will contact Jim Chetock at Oak Glen High School to begin the selection of a senior student for the ladies aide scholarship to be presented at the awards assembly.
Members signed cards for ill and shut-in members. The group shared concerns and comments for the good of the group.
Allison adjourned the meeting.
The group enjoyed fellowship and dessert. Allison, Mick Goffoli and Kathleen McDonald were hostesses.
The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 10 at the church.
