Presanctified Liturgy at Holy Resurrection

The service of the Presanctified Liturgy will be held at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church at 528 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

“The Presanctified Liturgy is an ancient and beautiful service held only during the Great Fast preceding the feast of the Resurrection,” explained the Rev. Rade Merick. “As the joy of the Eucharistic Liturgy is inappropriate during the weekdays of the Fast, but the faithful are in even greater need of being strengthened by Holy Communion, the Eucharist consecrated on Sunday is kept and distributed during a special vesperal liturgy on Wednesdays and Fridays throughout Lent,” he said.

“The service is deeply penitential, but filled with the assurance of Christ’s love in giving Himself to us in Communion,” Merick added..

Merick and visiting clergy will serve, with responses by the Church’s choir.

A lenten meal will follow. It is open to the public.
