An afternoon of fun, fashion, food at the Y
The YWCA of Steubenville located at 320 N. Fourth St. hosted its annual spring style show luncheon on April 18 to the theme “Fashions and Friends.”
A good crowd turned out for a time of food, fellowship, fun and fashion with a show presented by Anna-Lay’s Unique Fashions of Steubenville owned by Doreen Kay Leimkuehler and Peggy Ann Zende.
Patrons got a chance to shop at the traveling boutique that offered not only clothing but accessories as well with Leimkuehler noting neon colors are hot this spring.
Models for the event were Cindy Taylor, Jan Bell, Margaret Frederick, Kim Stover, Cheryl Morelli, Rose Lavender, Anna Robertson, Kim Cando, Zana Pawlin and Pam Herndon.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the YWCA’s ongoing programs, including the summer day camps for girls, Y-Teen program, women’s transitional housing, senior socials, informational seminars and youth volunteers.
“The generosity of our community allows the YWCA to successfully provide programs like these for the women and girls in the Jefferson County area,” notes Marlyn Neely, YWCA executive director.
Christine Hargrave is the YWCA’s board president who served on the event planning committee along with Neely, Patricia Fletcher, treasurer Terri Antill and Mikki Thomas.
“I believe that the Y has a great deal to offer to most women in our community and men, too, for that matter,” Hargrave said.
“We have the Rotary (Club) and the Kiwanis (Club) here all the time, and we have a wonderful fellowship with all those people working together. Our mission is to eliminate racism and empower women, and a day like this helps that along very well because we have a good time together, understand how much we can do together and yet we also know we can have fun,” Hargrave said. “It’s a good day for us.”
The YWCA is a member agency of the United Way of Jefferson County.
