Class visits Gathering Place

PARIS, Pa. – The Myrtle McHendry Class of the Cove Presbyterian Church met April 2 at the Paris Presbyterian Church’s Gathering Place coffeehouse, a newly designed space promoting spiritual fellowship and friendship.

President Betty Virtue welcomed those in attendance and asked Grace Michell to offer the table grace.

The Paris church ladies served homemade soups, beverages and desserts as part of the Gathering Place outreach.

Virtue introduced the Rev. Christina Hosler, Paris church pastor, who also welcomed those attending. She gave a presentation on Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians.

She introduced Marge Zellars, Gathering Place director of outreach ministry. Zellars said ministry is for everyone and can be done in many ways, as the Paris church is doing with the Gathering Place.

The church is sponsoring a grief group, open to the public, which is meeting Mondays evenings. The group utilizes the short, “Beyond the Broken Heart,” and sharing experiences.

The church also has a Thursday Bible study and a “lunch bunch,” which features studies with Rick Warren and Max Lucado. There are plans in the works to visit nursing homes and have Bible studies available.

Other upcoming events to encourage Christian fellowship and friendship include “music nights,” during which those attending are encouraged to share their musical talents; bowling; and movie trips.

The Gathering Place will host Christian author Mary Jean Bonar May 1. A light lunch will be served and the public is invited to attend.

Hosler performed several selections of Christian music on the flute.

Virtue conducted a short business meeting. Rhadine Ross reported 14 members and a guest were in attendance. Members sang “Happy Birthday” to Diana Durst, Ruth Coates, Ila Mae Mauk and Evelyn Buckley.

Eleanor Cline, Sunday school teacher, encouraged members to come to Sunday school, where the class is studying Acts.

Bonnie Nichols thanked Michell, who had the devotions, and Eloise Evans thanked the hostesses.
