Turkey shoot set
The Colliers Sportsmen’s Club will sponsor a turkey shoot at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the rifle range on Putney Lane.
All are invited to attend.
The Colliers Primary School Parent-Teacher Association recently met with the second-graders leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
President Tawnya Dennis presided over the meeting.
Principal Jo-Ellen Goodall reported Dalton Anderson, Alex Garrett, Sydney Felouzis, Ethan Robey and Ryan Stilgenbauer participated in Math Field Day. Robey placed first, Stilgenbauer fourth and Garrett second alternate. Robey also competed in the regional contest.
The West Virginia Educational Standards Test writing assessments was held April 8. The smarter balance assessment for reading and language arts for third- and fourth-graders was held April 15 and 22. The WESTEST for third- and fourth-graders will be held May 13-17.
The students raised $1,000 for the United Way.
Jody Fabian reported the Box Tops for Education goal had been met and the labels have been sent in. Labels and box tops are still being collected.
Darlene Brennan reported a spring flower sale is being planned.
Past presidents, including Denise Spensky, Amy Pannett, Virginia McMahon and Carol Cain, attended to observe Founder’s Day. Each was introduced and presented with a gift and a card.
The Nomination Committee, including Kim Anderson, Melissa Garrett and Monica Hosler, was formed.
Goodall was thanked for her participation in the Silly for Seuss Day assembly, which benefited the United Way.
Refreshments were served following the meeting.
Fish fry to open
Phyllis Aria, Colliers Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary president, announced the group’s annual fish fry will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 10 at the fish fry house next to the fire hall.
It will be held every Friday until the fall.
Trappers make donations
The Northern Panhandle Trappers Association met with President Jack Cain presiding.
The group agreed to send a monetary donation to the National Rifle Association, along with dues to the West Virginia Trappers and West Virginia Wildlife associations.
Discussion on a summer outing was tabled until the next meeting.
Officers were elected as follows: President Jack Cain, Secretary Brian Taylor, Treasurer Tim Cain and Representative John McNicholas.
A new vice president will be elected at the May meeting after Lester Ross resigned.
Car show planned
The Colliers VFD will sponsor a car show as part of the Firemen’s Festival June 22 at the firemen’s field.
The event will include door prizes, a 50/50 drawing and a disc jockey. Dash plaques will be distributed.

The group discussed ways to increase membership.
The Scholarship Committee, including Lori Robey, Vickie Mace, Penny Foose and Dean Heinen, announced the application deadline is up. The award will be presented at Brooke High School awards night.
The next meeting will be held May 2.
