Group plans calendar lunch

WEIRTON – The Garden Department of the Weirton Woman’s Club, a General Federation of Women’s Clubs of West Virginia member club, will hold the 12th-annual Calendar Luncheon at noon Saturday at the Holiday Inn – Weirton.

The event includes tables decorated using the 12 months of the year and four seasons as themes, entertainment and door prizes.

Vocalist Victoria Gerst will perform. Gerst, 18, a Brooke High School senior, is a member of the Madrigal Choir and traveled to Italy to perform at the Vatican. She also is a featured twirler with the high school marching band’s majorettes. Gerst will star in the school’s production of “You Can’t Take It With You” and will appear as Eve in “Children of Eden.” She is a member of the National Honors Society and the Tri-M Music Honors Society. Gerst plans to attend West Virginia University and majoring in occupational therapy in the fall.

“This is our only fundraiser and the proceeds from the luncheon will provide a scholarship to a local student going into agriculture or landscaping,” said Sharon Neeley, garden department chair. “It also provides the funds to help beautify the community.”

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling Neeley at (304) 797-1945 or Diana Durst, department secretary, at (304) 723-4469.

No tickets will be sold at the door.
