Library celebrates poetry month

WEIRTON – The Mary H. Weir Public Library will celebrate fine free week Sunday through April 20.

April is Poetry Month, and the library has a display featuring local poets near the reference desk.

The library will screen Disney’s “Brave,” including free popcorn and soft drinks at 6 p.m. today in the activity room.

C.H.A.N.G.E. Inc. will conduct a women’s job skills workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the library. Call (304) 797-7733 to make a reservation.

The library’s Literacy Education Activity Project Tour will include the fifth-annual Festival of Nations from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Millsop Community Center.

Volunteer Ed Giacchio is teaching computer classes at 6 p.m. Tuesday evenings in the library’s Room C. There will be basic, intermediate and advanced classes in the Internet, word processing, Excel and Power Point. Call (304) 797-8510 to register.

The WorkForce Job and Career Accelerator and Learning Express workshop will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 19 in the library’s Room C.

The library and John Hancock Pen Club will sponsor a writing workshop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the library’s activity room. It is open to volunteer tutors, students and the public. Those attending should bring a sample of prose or poetry to share.

The Learning Express and Job and Career Accelerator workshop will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 24 at the library. It is free and open to the public.

The April book discussion group will meet at 1:30 p.m. April 27. April’s book is “The Lifeboat,” by Charlotte Rogan. Copies are available from Library Assistant Director Pat Barnett.
