Something’s cooking with nursing association

The Ohio Valley Hospital/Trinity School of Nursing Alumni Association will hold its biannual meeting on April 17 – a covered-dish dinner beginning at 5 p.m. at Starkdale Presbyterian Church on Sunset Boulevard, Steubenville.

Approximately 850 newsletters are mailed to alumni prior to each meeting, according to Blanche Williams, president of the association that since organizing has successfully completed two projects.

One is the memorial cabinet in the Trinity East lobby that showcases memorabilia; the other, the first-ever nursing school reunion that was held last August at St. Florian Hall. Because of successful ad solicitation for the event, funds are available for the association to sponsor two $500 scholarships to two senior nursing students, Williams notes in the association’s April newsletter.

And by the way, there are some commemorative videoes of the school of nursing and alumni from the reunion. They are $5 and available by contacting Williams.

At the October meeting, the group set the stage for its next project – compiling a cookbook with recipes from alumni. “Nurses have always been great chefs,” Williams writes in the newsletter. “I remember exchanging recipes from my early days of nursing, so I am asking everyone to share their favorite recipes.” The recipes can be sent to Williams by regular mail to 301 Williams Blvd., Wintersville, OH 43953 or by e-mail to or to Judy Owings, association treasurer, at 1 Ross Park, Steubenville, OH 43952.

Other officers are Char Biacco, vice president, and Dani Manalac, secretary. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of April and October at 5 p.m. at Starkdale Presbyterian Church. For information, call Williams at (740) 282-6502.
