Tri-State Marine auxiliary meets
WEIRTON – The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held the monthly meeting April 8 at the Serbian American Cultural Center, with President Joan Spano presiding over the business session.
Joan Spano thanked Vice President Darlene Kemp for conducting the March meeting in her absence. In the absence of Chaplain Mary Ann Smith, Maxine Ragan gave the invocation and led prayers for Jake Killen, Ed Hanlin, Gertie Hanlin, Shirley Brecht, Mary Ann Smith and Donald Smith. Marcy Spano gave the devotions, reading “He Loves You – and Always Will,” by Faith Helen Steines Rice. Shirley Brecht led the members the Pledge of Allegiance; Kemp called roll; and Secretary Carol Lyons read the March meeting report, which was approved as read. Lyons read thank-you letters from the West Virginia Veterans Home in Barboursville. The auxiliary sent birthday cards to nine residents in April and March. Boatsie’s Boxes sent a thank-you letter for Easter cards, snacks and hygiene products collected for active duty troops by the auxiliary. The Tri-State Young Marines sent a letter thanking the auxiliary for a monetary gift.
Joan Spano gave the Sunshine report in the absence of Elliott. The auxiliary sent a get-well card to Shirley Brecht and sympathy card to Ruth Coates. Members extended April birthday wishes to Tiffanie Handly. Easter cards were sent to service members with local ties.
The auxiliary made a donation to the Weirton Chamber of Commerce’s Class of 2013 for the Veterans Memorial Park on Weirton Heights.
The group will be sending out letters about their no-bake bake sale in May and June. Members were encouraged to remember their secret pals.
Peg Dawson won the 50/50 drawing and donated it back tot he treasury. The group will order a wreath for Memorial Day, and Treasurer Maxine Ragan will place it.
Shirley Brecht provided refreshments. Marcy Spano and Joan Spano will provide refreshments at the May meeting.
