UM parish presents Easter cantata

WEIRTON – The Weirton United Methodist Parish Choir presented their Easter Cantata “It Is Finished” April 7 at the First United Methodist Church at West Street and Lee Avenue.

The cantata, created by Russell Mauldin and Sue C. Smith and arranged and orchestrated by Russell Mauldin, recounted Jesus’ final breath on the cross, celebrates his victory over death’s stronghold, and declares with confidence, “It Is Finished.”

The songs in the cantata included “Christ The Lord Is Risen today,” “Welcome The King!” “Behold How He Loves,” “When He Was On The Cross (I Was On His Mind),” “It Is Finished,” “Just As I Am,” and “Christ Is Risen Finale.”

Tom Dohnal is choir director and accompanist; Keith Huntzinger was the narrator; and Carolyn Clements was the soloist. Choir members included Lester Chilcote, Carolyn Clements, Deb Coss, Pat Cotherman, Lois Cox, Ralph Cox, Dave Dalton, Desiree Dennis, Willard Douglas, Autumn Duckworth, Nancy Fridley, Beverly Kelley, Carol Kennedy, Diane Kopa, Jackie Nixon, Judy Pievach, Eleanor Pritchard, Chelsea Virden, Karen Virden, Michele Wallace, Bob Watson, Jane Watson and Teresa Yoder.

A covered-dish dinner followed the performance.
