Library announces June activites
MCDONALD – The Heritage Public Library will have a pizza cook-off to kick-off its new Teen Book Club at 1 p.m. June 8 at the library located at 52 Fourth St.
The club is open to teens aged 13 to 18 years old. Those interested in participating in the competition or teens interested in judging or participating in the contest can contact the library at (724) 926-8400 or “mailto:heritagelibrary@comcast”>heritagelibrary@comcast. net.
The Weight Watchers group meets at 6 p.m. Tuesdays.
Gateway Health will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 6 in the library’s backroom. Representatives will answer general questions and questions about the organization’s future plans. For information, call (412) 720-2277.
The library’s book discussion group meets at at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. June’s title is “An Invisible Thread” by Laura Schroff. Those wanting to suggest a book for the group may do so by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The club will next meet June 11.
The McQuilters quilting group meets at 10 a.m. the second Wednesday of each in the community room. It will next meet June 12.
The library board of directors meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. The board is seeking new members. Those interested should contact the library at (724) 926-8400. It will next meet June 12.
The Tween Book Club meets from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be June 19. June’s title is “Holes” by Louis Sachar. Those interested in the club can call the library at (724) 926-8400.
The library will hold its summer blood donation drive and a bake sale from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 20. Inquire at the library for details.
The library is looking for volunteers. Volunteers assist with fundraising and supplement the library’s book purchases. Friends of the Library meetings are at 6:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month. They will next meet June 20. The library will hold the children’s summer reading program, with the theme “Dig Into Reading,” 10:30 a.m. to noon Fridays from June 21 through Aug. 16 at the library located at 52 Fourth St.
Dinosaurs, insects, American Indians and ancient Egyptians will be examined.
Area residents are asked to sponsor a day of summer reading for $50; those doing so will be recognized on their sponsor day. For information, call (724) 926-8400.
The LEGO Club meets the last Thursday of each month. The next meeting is June 27 and the theme is “Summertime.”
The library has raised more than $3,800 for roof replacement, but additional donations are still needed.
The library is offering daily sponsorships for $100, during which the library’s phone will be answered informing callers who is sponsoring the library that day and signage will be displayed in the library. Sponsors also will be mentioned on the library’s social media platforms. Sponsorships for Mondays and Fridays are $50. Individual sponsors pay half price.
The library participates in the ABITIBI recycling fundraising program.
The library offers borough history on microfilm from the 1890s to 1982. It also offers fax services, a copy machine, a scanner, Internet and computer access and e-books, which can be checked out online at the library’s website, using a valid library card number.

Library hours are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
