Marines auxiliary group meets

WEIRTON – The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held the monthly meeting May 13 at the Serbian-American Cultural Center located on Colliers Way.

President Joan Spano called the meeting to order and presided over the business session. Chaplain Mary Ann Smith led devotions, reading “God Blessed Me With a Wonderful Mother” and giving the invocation with special prayers for Jake Killen, Gertie Hanlin, Joan Spano, Jean Hanlin, Linda Bundy, Mary Ann Smith, Daniel Lyons, Berna Bee and JoAnn Johns. Vice President Darlene Kemp called roll; Secretary Carol Lyons read the April minutes, which were approved as read; and Treasurer Maxine Ragan gave the financial report.

Lyons read thank-yous from Tri-State Medical Group for sending snacks to the troops, West Virginia Veterans Home for sending birthday cards to residents and from Major Rich Wolf, who is deployed overseas. Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliott sent get-well cards to John White, Bruce Hornick, Don Smith, Joan Spano, George Ragan, George Tremblay, Don Toothman, Cory McHenry and Berna Bee and sympathy cards to Holly and Randy Horn, Gary and Jean Hanlin, Linda Hanlin and Mary Ann Smith. Members extended May birthday wishes to Tina Spano, Carol Lyons, Maxine Ragan and Vicki Parr, singing “Happy Birthday.” Joan Spano sent six birthday cards to West Virginia Veterans Home residents.

Maxine Ragan and Jim Jursko will place wreaths on behalf of the auxiliary and club during the Memorial Day ceremonies May 27.

The auxiliary is holding a no-bake bake sale in June.

Adopted veteran Danny Lyons was given a red-white-and-blue afghan made by Marge Porchrian for Memorial Day.

Elizabeth Shipe won the 50/50 drawing and donated it back to the treasury.

Joan and Marcy Spano served refreshments. JoAnn Johns and Carolyn Mirabella will serve in June.

The next meeting is 6:30 p.m. June 10 at the cultural center.
