Pinwheel Tree of Hope helps A Caring Place

The Outreach Commission of Starkdale Presbyterian Church chose A Caring Place Child Advocacy Center in Wintersville as the 2013 benefactor for the church’s annual Pinwheel Tree of Hope.

One of Starkdale’s ministries is the awareness and prevention of child abuse, according to Cindy Sagrilla, outreach commission member.

A Caring Place, located on Route 43 in Wintersville, helps children who are victims or witnesses of abuse. It provides an interview room where children can comfortably talk to professionals, seek guidance and understanding. The center also provides medical exams for child sexual abuse victims and educational/prevention information to the community.

Mary Ann Donnelly, A Caring Place director, provided the church with a list of needed children’s activity supplies. Sagrilla explained that “an item name was placed on each mini pinwheel and placed on our narthex tree. More than 100 pinwheels adorned the tree. Church members were asked to select a pinwheel(s), purchase the item(s) and place them under our Tree of Hope.”

April was Child Abuse Awareness month, numerous large pinwheels lined the entrance to Starkdale Church.
