AARP celebrates fathers, flags
WEIRTON – President Joann Bugin called the AARP Chapter 3846 June meeting to order.
Members were celebrating Father’s Day and National Flag Day. Carol Irvine was thanked for her flag display. Virginia Kucan gave invocation.
Bettye Williamson introduced the evening’s entertainment, Donahue and Son. July’s entertainment will be Magician for Hire Michael Strough.
Secretary Barbara Purks gave her report, and, in the absence of Treasurer Frank Fazio, Chuck Bugin read his report. Both were approved.
Membership Chair Joyce Dobbs welcomed new member Carol Boyer. Angie Mazur and Mary Ann DiFonzo, guests of Josie Elliott, were introduced. The club has 139 members with 88 in attendance at the meeting.
Sunshine Chair Mary Rose Spano sent get-well cards to Milt Fabianich, Lester Fridley and Frank Fazio and a sympathy card to Virginia Riley. Regina Truax, Steve Rzepka, Albert Daugherty and Elizabeth Hudak celebrated birthdays. Steve and Joyce Rzepka, Richard and Ruth Sperry, Walt and Mary Margaret Klepadlo and Santo and Mary Gubetti celebrated anniversaries.
Milt Fabianich collected 35 glasses, five cell phones and two hearing aids. Barb McCoy collected $10.06 in the penny jar in May for the senior center.
Ernie Nicholas shared greetings with the club sent by longtime members John and Elma Pandelios.
All committees reported on activities as called on by Joann Bugin, who extended thanks for their work.
Marian Bowen and John Geary won the dinners. Patty Beltrame and Bettye Williamson won the 50/25/25 drawing. Noman White won the quilt, and Barb McCoy won the check. Prizes were given to men in honor of Father’s Day and were won by Dan Tournay, Steve Rzepka, Ed Krinock, John Geary, Santo Gubetti, Richard Dobbs, Norman White, Bill Wetzel, John Grimm, Lester Fridley, Walt Klepadlo, Al Daugherty, Michael Oklok, Jay Householder and Jack Cummings.
Virginia Kucan gave benediction and meeting adjourned.
The next meeting will be held July 8.
