New Cumberland Lions Club inducts new members

Second Vice President Brian Webster chaired the New Cumberland Lions Club May 28 meeting where Carole Scheerbaum of the West Virginia University Extension Office gave the program, speaking about the Energy Express program.

Past District Gov. John Patton inducted new members Matthew Murray and Daniel Smith, both of whom were sponsored by Dick Rodgers.

Bob Manypenny reported on the May 24-25 pulled pork sales. The next pulled pork dinner fundraiser will be held June 22 in the Swaney Memorial Library parking lot.

Manypenny also reported on the Lion’s Scholar dinner and noted Warren Wright sent a two-man crew to clean out the paper shed. The next paper drive is tentatively scheduled for July.

Members voted to review the list of items requested by Scheerbaum for the Energy Express program and bring some to the next meeting for donation.

Club members discussed the upcoming 150th anniversary of West Virginia’s statehood, and Jones noted the New Cumberland Women’s Club will plant a rhododendron in front of the Swaney Library to commemorate the occasion.

The next meeting is June 18.
