Nifty Needles Group meets

WEIRTON – The Nifty Needles Neighborhood Group of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Sewing Guild met at the First Christian Church on Main Street.

Leader Nancy Sanders welcomed the six members in attendance and distributed the Pittsburgh Chapter president’s newsletter. She reminded member of the national guild convention Aug. 1-5 in Washington, D.C., and the Pittsburgh Sewing Expo Aug. 22-24. A fall workshop for chapter groups is being planned; details will be distributed as they come available.

During the show-and-tell segment, Susan Maze, Dale Negle, Kay Nixon and Carol Village displayed tea cosies they had completed after receiving the kit at the May meeting.

Nixon present the evening’s program, displaying her collection of mini sewing kits, sewing notions, sewing tools and instructional sewing books.

Nancy Linn received the door prize.

Maze reported a group will be meeting Thursday mornings at the Presbyterian Church in Paris, Pa., to sew sleeping mats for the homeless. All are welcome to come and participate.

The next meeting will be held July 2 and Negle will present a program on making scarves. It also is an invitational night for teens and preteens interested in sewing. Take-home craft kits will be distributed to those children attending.
