Trinity’s ECHO fund donates to DeFede Scholarship

The Employees Caring and Helping Others Fund at Trinity Health System recently voted to donate $500 to the Rose M. DeFede Scholarship Fund at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

This fund is restricted, stating that female recipients must be above the age of 22, and in need of a degree to obtain employment or to get upgraded in their place of employment.

“We have a number of success stories of ladies whose lives have been enhanced by the scholarship, which serves to motivate us to continue this quest of making certain that this effort continues to thrive,” said Anita Jackson, director of community relations at the university. “One of our recipients will be addressing the audience at our fundraising event on Wednesday (today) on campus,” she said, referring to Franciscan Women’s Scholarship Guild’s “Spring Into Spring” fundraising event that begins at 5:30 p.m. on the campus of Franciscan University of Steubenville in the Tony and Nina Gentile Gallery in the J.C. Williams Center.

The entertainment will be provided by the Brooke High School Madrigal Choir under the direction of Nick Taylor. There also will be various prizes awarded and light refreshments served.

Event tickets are $5. The event is sponsored by the Community Relations Department.

The E.C.H.O. Fund, Jackson said, is an example of what can be accomplished when people have a desire to help where there is need. The fund distributes at least $32,000 annually each year and has been in existence for more than 36 years.
