Holtz HoF will

hold concert

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – The Lou Holtz Hall of Fame will host a musical extravaganza at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at the hall, located at 120 E. Fifth St.

The concert will feature the harmonica-playing Sgro Brothers and special guest Rose Angelica. East Liverpool High School’s Renaissance Singers and the gospel group By His Grace also will perform.

Light refreshments will follow the concert.

Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the hall or by check, sent to: Lou Holtz Hall of Fame, 120 E. Fifth St., East Liverpool, OH 43920.

review meal prices

WELLSBURG – Brooke County Schools will make no change to the price of school meals for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The cost is $1 for breakfast and 30 cents for reduced-price breakfast; $1.30 for lunch for children in elementary school; $1.35 for lunch for children in middle school; and $1.40 for lunch for children in high school; reduced-price lunch is 40 cents. An extra milk is 40 cents and all second lunches are $2.

Those meeting income qualifications may apply for reduced-price or free meals. Application forms will be sent home and also are available at all schools and county officers.

Annual Weirton reunion Aug. 16-17

The ninth-annual Weir Avenue/North Weirton/Dunbar Alumni Reunion will be held Aug. 16-17.

There will be a “Get-Acquainted Social” on Aug. 16 at the Dunbar Center beginning at 5 p.m.

Activities on Aug. 17 will include:

A tour of the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, 3149 Main St., Weirton, to view the Dunbar High School history display from noon to 1 p.m. Robert “Bob” Kelley will serve as host.

A dinner-dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall in the Galleria Room, Weirton. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with dinner served promptly at 7:30 p.m. Attire is casual.

Adults sought for softball tournament

The Follansbee Softball League seeks players for an adult co-ed softball tournament July 27 to benefit the Barretts, an Oklahoma family who lost their home in the recent tornado.

A cash prize will be awarded based on the number of teams that sign up. The team entry fee is $100.

Children’s knitting group to meet

The Brooke County Library’s Kids’ Knitting Group will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Children in third grade or higher can learn to knit with help from instructor Nora Bell. They should bring yarn and needles or loom to start creating.

Photos sought for new restaurant

The owners of Legends, an upcoming new restaurant to open at the former Wellsburg American Legion headquarters, are seeking photos of historically significant people and businesses from throughout the Northern Panhandle to be displayed at the restaurant.

Photos of past West Virginia governors and 65 Medal of Honor recipients from West Virginia have been secured for the new business at 735 Charles St., Wellsburg.

Country Friends to

host Sands of Time

COLLIERS – Country Friends will host the Sands of Time Saturday at Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance begins at 7 p.m.

Country Friends hosts covered-dish dinners and open mic nights each Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

WEIRTON – The Weirton Baseball Association is taking registration for the 2013 fall baseball and softball season from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 11 and 18 at the association’s complex concession stand area.

Only those who played spring baseball will be eligible. The cost is $60. Placement is based on what division the child played in during the 2013 season.
