First Choice awards scholarships

WEIRTON – The First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 “People Helping People” Scholarships.

Those selected include:

Kelsey Marie Brown is a graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School and plans to attend Penn State’s Behrend College of Engineering and Technology. She is the daughter of Kelly and Susan Brown of Acme, Pa., and the granddaughter of Amatore and Tina Titi of Mingo Junction, Ohio.

A recent graduate of Weirton Madonna High School, Sneha Gupta attends the Washington and Jefferson College as a bio-chemistry major. She is the daughter of Sanjay and Kalpana Gupta of Weirton.

Dana Holmstrand, a graduate of Wheeling Park High School, is attending the College of William and Mary as a public policy and history major. She is the daughter of Jeff and Linda Holmstrand of Wheeling.

A 2013 graduate of Catholic Central High School, Mark A. Lopez plans to major in engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He is the son of Francisco and Joan Lopez of Steubenville, Ohio.

Shelby Lynn Wade, the daughter of Lonnie and Christine Wade of Colliers, plans to major in nursing at Wheeling Jesuit University. She is a graduate of Brooke High School.

Since the program’s inception in 1995, the credit union has awarded $89,000 in scholarships. Each recipient receives $1,000.

The “People Helping People” Scholarship is open to high school and college students who are primary members of the First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union. Grade point average, scholastic achievements and community involvement are considered in awarding the scholarships.

Applications with complete guidelines for the next school year will be available this October at any of the Credit Union’s eight office locations.
