JUHS athletes reunion will skip a year

Men who would have played a sport in the history of Jefferson Union High School by its name – from its beginnings in the 1940s through the mid-1980s – gathered for a first-time reunion in August 2012 and with intentions to do so again this year, but organizer Sam Geddis announced recently that 2014 in early August will be the next go-round for that.

And it likely will be open to former female JUHS athletes, too.

In a test-the-waters approach, the 2012 reunion was organized for those who played football, basketball, baseball or ran track, for example, and 28 representing classes from 1950 to 1987 turned out for the summer party that was held Aug. 4 at the home of Theodore Maragos.

The event was occasion to reminisce and socialize with attendees encouraged to bring memorabilia or yearbooks and to wear brown and gold, JUHS school colors.

Among those attending were Bill Shields, Joe Miller, Coach John Kosikowski, Sean Geddis, George Maragos, Sam Brown, Dave Marshall, Jim Hartzell, Sam Geddis, John Chapman, Ted Gillespie, Coach Carl Firm, Paul Parker, Ron Ferguson, Jeff Wilson, Teo Maragos, former Principal Gerald “Yonk” DiLoreto, Carl Huber; Jim Sanders, Chris Maragos, Vasile Maragos and Clint Sanders.

So as Geddis says, the reunion will be a 2014 event, the good Lord willing.
