Strough entertains AARP at meeting

WEIRTON – President Joann Bugin called the July AARP Chapter 3846 meeting to order and called on Carol Irvine to give the invocation.

Vice President Bettie Williamson introduced magician Michael Strough as entertainment. Next month’s entertainment will be Brian and Shawn Chirsagis.

Secretary Barbara Purks gave her report, followed by Treasurer Frank Fazio. Both were approved by membership.

Regina Truax reported 83 members and one guest, Dorothy Gorman, guest of Ruth Sperry, were in attendance. Parliamentarian Louise Herman was not able to attend but sent a report on proposed health care plan that could be picked up by members.

Regina Truax announced the following trips:

July 28, Una Bella Festa;

Sept. 26, Kenny Vance and the Planotones; and

Sept. 30, Polynesian Fire.

Sunshine Chair Mary Rose Spano sent get-well wishes to Frank Fazio, Ruth Daugherty, Barb Thompson and Virginia Riley. Spano also called for birthday wishes for Katy Rosohac, Liz Messerly and Corliss Brown and anniversary wishes for Nikki Cable.

Barb McCoy collected $8.16 and Milt Fabianich has collected 56 pairs of glasses, nine cell phones and two hearing aid sets.

Patsy Verlast asked that President Joann Bugin be honored for her hard work and devotion to the chapter that keeps it working and running smoothly.

John Fields and Barb McCoy won dinners donated by Undo’s; Joyce Dobbs and Paul Yates won the 50/25/25; Virginia Kucan won the quilt; and Doris Ficca won a check contributed by the club. Mary Tyson, Bettie Williamson, Joyce Rzepka, Virginia Kucan, Luelle Robinson, Al Wudarski, Jean Irvin and Barbara Purks won door prizes.

Carol Irvine gave benediction and Joann Bugin adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be Aug. 12.
