Weirton Salvation Army holding food drive
WEIRTON – The Salvation Army has announced a summer food drive from July 22 – Aug. 22 to replenish the food pantry.
Brenda Greathouse, social services director states, “We are introducing three different food drives to meet specific needs for our pantry. Individuals, church groups, youth groups, college groups, or businesses can choose one or all of the following drives to help meet our immediate need.”
1) Breakfast is ready! This will focus on any item breakfast related, such as cereals, granola bars, pop tarts, fruit cups, peanut butter, etc.
2) Soup is on! This will focus on any type of soup, ravioli, ramen noodles, and crackers.
3)1-2-3 Come & get it!: This drive focuses on simple ingredients to create dinner. Items needed are canned tuna, canned chicken, canned ham, noodles, pasta side dishes, spaghetti, tomato sauce & spaghetti sauce.
Greathouse added, ” Our pantry is operated daily Monday through Friday. We are seeing new people each month, struggling to meet their food needs. In the business of summer activities, we may forget that our neighbors are struggling day to day.”
Greathouse said the Salvation Army thanks the community and businesses that have always given.
“It is our hope that once again, you might consider The Salvation Army as we strive to continually fill our food baskets for our neighbors,”?she said.
She added, “I would be happy to speak with your group or business about the work that The Salvation Army is doing daily. I can provide fliers and containers for the food drive.”
Items can be brought to the 796 Cove Road location 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
