Women’s golf news


Blackmoor Ladies Monday Night Golf League had a two-woman scramble on July 15.

Winners were Lori Defallo and Janice Whitaker. Low putts went to Linda Caputo and Neysa McCart.

Long driver winner was McCart.

Linda Caputo had a chip in on hole No. 2.


Cathy Shepherd was hostess on July 17 when the Cadiz Women’s Golf Association played the Mutt and Jeff game, meaning scoring only on the Par 3s and the Par 5s, using half a player’s handicap.

A flight winner was Nep Rowland. B flight winner was Bonnie Beetham, and Donna Griffin won in C flight.

Putts of the field were won by Theresa Stotler and Bonnie Beetham. Hostess for Wednesday will be Dolores Ginier.

The Dyer Ladies Golf Association held its annual senior tournament on July 16. Winners were:

Spring Hills Ladies Golf League played its Red, White and Blue Scramble on July 11.

On the par 3’s all A flight players hit from the blue tee, B flight hit from the white tees, and C flight members hit from the red tees.

The winners were:

First-place team – Cindy Montgomery, Sharon Coleman and Ruth Lamantia posted a 32.

Second-place team – Lorie Szymanek, Vickie Grant, Mary Alice Myers and Eleanor Kindsvatter with a score of 34.

Long drive for the night was: A flight, Lori Szumanek; B flight, Ruth Lamantia; and C flight, Mary Arehart.

Closest to the pin on No. 4 was: A flight, Marge Alpino; B flight, Patty Gerlando; and C flight, Brenda McClosky.

The 50/50 winner was Jay Risnear.

Lori Szymanek had a chip.


The Williams Ladies Golf Association played “Train Wreck” July 16 with Priscilla Mavrich taking first place in flight one with a score of 14. Rita Kohn took second place with a score of 11.

Flight two winner was Erikka Buracchio with a score of 26 and Phyllis Phillips coming in second with a score of 17.

Flight three winner with a score of 22 was Vi Stein with Kay Mascio following in second place with a score of 18.

Skill prize of the day was long drive on hole No. 7 with Linda Staffilino taking first flight, Sue Sakara taking second flight and Stein taking third flight.

Longest putt on hole No. 3 winner was Phillips.

Pot of Gold winner was Rita Wickham with a chip-in on hole No. 6.

Assistant Pro Jason Smoljanovich figured and announced the winners for the day.

This week’s play will be senior and super senior championship along with low team net with a blind draw.

Players must call the pro shop as soon as possible or sign in advance to be listed for tee times for the two- week event.


A two-best ball tournament was the weekly event for the Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association with Dianna Adams and Shelle Pentes as chairmen.

Taking first place was the team of Kim Criss, Pentes and Theresa Metcalf with a score of 140 which was 10 below par. YangJa Koh, Adams, and Renee Morelli came in second with a score of 140, four under par.

Winners for low putts were Koh in the first flight and Metcalf in the second flight. Pentes recorded a chip-in on the ninth hole to take the money cup which had carried over for two weeks.

Morelli announced that the annual Rally for a Cure will be held this week with special contests and prizes. Golfers are asked to wear pink which is the official rally color. The sign-up sheet is posted in the locker room. Natalie Straus is assisting Morelli with the tournament.

Golfers are to report at 8:30 a.m. for a 9 a.m. start.
