Bi-annual North End reunion held

WEIRTON – The ninth bi-annual Weir Avenue/North Weirton/Dunbar Alumni reunion was held Aug. 16-17.

A get-acquainted social, including music, was held Aug. 16 at the Dunbar Recreation Center, and a block party began at 11 a.m. Aug. 17 on Vermont Street. A variety of vendors were on hand, selling food, beverages, makeup, jewelry and T-shirts. Robert “Bob” Kelley hosted a tour of the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, with a special emphasis on Dunbar School history, at noon Aug. 17.

A dinner-dance was held Aug. 17 at the Knights of Columbus hall, including a buffet and music by disc jockey Bill Harvey. A photographer was available, and a 50/50 drawing was held.

Kelley donated a Dunbar sweater for drawing, and the proceeds benefited the Dunbar Recreation Center. Door prizes were distributed.

Guests attended the reunion from Washington, South Carolina, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Illinois and Georgia.

The next reunion will be held in 2015.
