Homicide victims to be honored

WASHINGTON, Pa. Washington County District Attorney Eugene A. Vittone announced the county will observe the Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims Sunday in the Crime Victims Memorial Garden located behind the Family Court Center.

The event will honor those lost to homicide, focus on how murder impacts families and communities and support survivors.

The garden was established five years ago by the district attorney’s Crime Victim/Witness Assistance Program. It features a water garden with river rocks inscribed with the names of nearly 100 Washington County residents who lost their lives during the commission of a crime.

“It is important for all of us to recognize the impact that the loss of a loved one has on those who survive,” said Vittone. “This is particularly true when that loss occurs due to violent criminal activity. It is my hope that by recognizing those who have been lost, it eases the pain that these families feel by knowing that others care about their loss.”
