Knights present checks

The Immaculate Heart of Mary Council No. 472 Knights of Columbus recently presented its annual checks to the Special Olympics and the School of Bright Promise. On hand for the presentation were Don Hall, immediate past grand knight; Jane Bodo, Jefferson County Special Olympics coordinator; Dick Sperry, Area 9 Special Olympics director; and D.L. Romel, council chairman for the prom and awards program for the local Special Olympic athletes.

The Knights of Columbus Measure-Up Program collects monies every year locally, statewide, nationally and internationally for individuals with developmental disabilities. The local Measure-Up Program is held the last week of April or the first week of May each year. The council officers and directors expressed appreciation to members who helped collect; to Walmart for use of its premises to collect donations; and to those who donated. Dick and Ruth Sperry thanked the council for their monetary donation and for sponsoring the prom and awards program every year. “The special athletes really look forward to an evening of socializing, dancing, eating and just having fun,” Dick Sperry said. Bodo thanked the council for its donation to the school.
