Local observance of National POW/MIA Remembrance Day set

AMVETS Post 275 met for a luncheon meeting Sept. 14 at Damon’s with post members Matz Malone, Walter Frazier and District 6 life member Jim Montgomery attending to discuss plans for upcoming events, including a local observance of National POW/MIA Remembrance Day.

It will be held Friday at the flagpole at Historic Fort Steuben, Steubenville, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Commander Dan Wilson said the names of more than 60 repatriated service members will be read at the program honoring those service members and the more than 83,000 service members still unaccounted for from the nation’s wars since World War II.

Other business discussed included the annual Veterans Day program and the post’s entry in the Steubenville Christmas Parade.

The group heard from Wendell Kaiser from the Patriot Guard Riders about the local group’s activities supporting veterans, and Lori Stone, AMVETS District 19 Commander, who presented Wilson with an All State Post Commanders cap for 2012-13. Stone explained that five post commanders in Ohio earned the award this year.

The next monthly meeting will coincide with the annual Veterans Health Fair to be held Oct. 19 at Steubenville High School.
