Walmart Foundation awards grant to Down syndrome support group
The Walmart Foundation has awarded a $1,500 grant to The Ups of Downs, Tri-State Down Syndrome Support Group.
The grant was provided upon the recommendation of the local distribution center in Wintersville after its review of needs in the Tri-State Area. The grant will provide opportunities to support the group’s mission of helping families and individuals with Down syndrome and promoting acceptance of individuals with disabilities.
“Walmart is committed to helping address unmet needs in the communities where we serve,” said Renita Lavender, Walmart human resource manager.
“Our support for The Ups of Downs, Tri-State Down Syndrome Support Group underscores this commitment, and we are hopeful that through our grant, residents of the Tri-State Area will continue to support the mission of their organization,” Lavender said.
The Ups of Downs is preparing for its fourth-annual Down Syndrome Awareness Walk which will be Sept. 14 at Tomlinson Run State Park in New Manchester. Registration is $10 per person and includes a goody bag, T-shirt, food and entertainment. Registration begins at noon, and the walk begins at 2 p.m.
The event also will inflatables provided by Movin’ & Groovin’ Productions in Empire and a Chinese auction.
