CWU collecting for Unicef
WEIRTON – The Church Women United Executive Board met at St. Peter’s AME Church fellowship hall Oct. 4 with Olivia Carter welcoming members and host pastor the Rev. Eddie McDaniel thanking those attending and blessing the food.
President Karen Tate presided over the meeting and read “Live the Way You Pray” by Anna Tibia Wilken. Marge DiClemente gave the devotion, reading “Count Your Blessings,” and discussing the ways blessings can be counted before closing with a prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Carol Village called roll and read the minutes; Treasurer JoAnn Morrison gave her report; and Sunshine Chair Maggie Clark reported two get-well cards had been sent.
Publicity Chair Isobel Bell discussed the upcoming World Community Day project and collection of snacks for the Dunbar Recreation Center.
Hospitality Chair Connie Gilbert thanked the host church and announced Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church will host the World Community Day celebration at 11 a.m. Nov. 1 at the church located at 121 Ivy St. World Community Day Coordinator Nancy Sanders met with the third-year delegates to plan the service, with the theme “Walking Through Doors of Opportunity.” Practice will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 31, with the choir meeting at 11 a.m. under Mary Ellen Groves’ direction.
Valiant Woman Chair Helen Tate asked that all candidates be submitted by Nov. 1, as the Valiant Woman will be honored at the May Friendship Day celebration.
UNICEF Chair Cathy Cooper distributed UNICEF boxes for Trick or Treat and noted UNICEF Week is Monday through Oct. 25, with tag day being from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Penco Road Shop’n Save. Member churches also will collect, and the funds will be taken to the City Building by Oct. 28.
DiClemente lead the Fellowship of the Least Coin with the reading, “A New Nature in Christ.”
Tate announced the Christmas luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Paris Presbyterian Church located at 127 Steubenville Pike, Burgettstown, Pa. Those attending are asked to bring nonperishable foods for the church’s food pantry. Diane Pastoric will meet with members after the celebration to discuss the In Case of Emergency program.
Naomi Jeter led the prayer circle, followed by members reciting the Lord’s Prayer and singing “May God’s Blessing Surround You.”
