Garden Department set to meet today
WEIRTON – The Garden Department of the Weirton Woman’s Club, a General Federation of Women’s Clubs of West Virginia member organization, recently held their opening meeting at Leah Shirer’s home with Chair Sharon Neeley presiding.
Seventeen members and two guests participated in a covered-dish picnic.
Barbara Raynolds led the inspiration with a reading, “Peace,” followed by prayer and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Committee chairs Dawn Neeley, Patty Nixon, Carol Village, June Pulice, Teresa McGown, Lea Shirer and Helen Brancazio gave reports.
Neeley reported four children went to the Junior Conservation Camp at Cedar Lakes in Ripley over the summer, facilitated by the department’s donation. Sandy Robbins made a motion, seconded by Jeanne Amidon, to sponsor a child at the camp next year. Members agreed to make it a department project.
Members were asked to decorate a table for the upcoming Calendar Luncheon, scheduled for April. The department also donated a gift basket for the Northern District Style Show.
Club First Vice President Jeanne Amidon, Department Chair Enid Williams and Literary Department Chair Diana Durst announced upcoming meetings and programs.
Diana Durst, Carla Glover, June Pulice and Carol Village won door prizes of mums.
The department will next meet at noon today at Undo’s at the Holiday Inn – Weirton. Helen Brancazio will give the inspiration and Judy Riter will be hostess.
